I keep getting follows on mastodon lately that’s just spam. It’s women’s accounts that have suggestive photos and usually links to OnlyFans. I even got one on two different accounts overnight.
Is anyone else seeing this?
I feel like in the future we’re gonna start seeing fediverse servers differentiate on feature sets.
Like one requires a subscription fee but pays for yearly audits by a respected auditor, or another offers spam-filtering, etc.
This year I’ve gotten about four that match what you describe. Before that I got maybe ten that were supposed to look like just normal people. Some of them often followed eachother.
They have all been on mastodon.social, which is what I first noticed and found weird. Personally I’m on a small and niche server being run by a dude in his garage. I barely have any followers and don’t post much. There’s not many ways to just randomly discover me on Mastodon.
This is me almost to a tee, which is why it’s easy to spot the spam. (Aside from, y’know the scantily clad pic and link to OnlyFans.) If I get a new follower, it’s usually someone who starred or boosted something I posted, not some random follow out of the blue.
I just report and remove as a follower.
Yeah, me too, but it seems to be increasing in frequency. I’m just wondering if others are seeing the same thing, or if I’ve somehow been targeted.

Yeah, my personality is one in a quadrillion all right. Just not in the way that would attract scantily clad OnlyFans models. 🤣

Lol I just received a follow request from an account just like the one you describe.
I’ve been on mastodon for a couple of years and received my first like that just over the past week.
I think I’ve gotten five over the last couple weeks (including the two overnight last night).
I’m not getting it but I know others are.
