  • Yeah, I’m not arguing with you, it’s just a pain in the ass to deal with. I don’t mind seeding the shit I download at all but it shouldn’t be a fucking competition when it’s a requirement to download stuff. Obviously they’re not hurting for seeders. IMO a better metric would be having a required seeding time (which they do anyway) and let you download as much as you want as long as you seed it long enough. Like you said I’ll never hit a positive ratio, even doing things your way I doubt I’d find enough shit I wanted to build up a big ratio. I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing and rely mainly on public trackers and use the private ones only when I can’t find what I’m looking for. I actually have quite a high ratio on both the private trackers I use just from seeding stuff for a long time and trading points in so I can download stuff, it just doesn’t help my ratio.

  • At a previous job we were swapping a ton of laptops out with newer models and at the end of it the boss let us know that we could keep some of the old ones for ourselves if we wanted. Everyone then set about to re-imaging their designated laptop only to find that there was some Dell encryption on the drive that functionally bricked it if you didn’t unlock it before you formatted it (I don’t remember the specifics but none of us were able to figure out how to bypass this). We only had one laptop left that hadn’t been touch and still had the app necessary to unencrypt them but there was only one hard drive slot so I ended up pulling the dvd drive out and sticking a sata cable in the slot for that and using an old PSU off the shelf and jumping it to actually power the drive. It was incredibly janky but it worked.

  • Doom scrolling. The thing is though when I take time off work I don’t touch the internet at all for days on end. I work on my hobbies instead. It’s when I only have a day or two of free time (even less when you account for having to do chores) and not enough time to finish whatever I’m working on along with whatever I have to come back to next Monday weighing on my mind that I just turn to my phone instead. That’s only working 40 hours a week too. There are people in far worse situations than me.

  • I found a wallet on the ground by a truck outside a store recently that had a lot of cash in it. I looked at the license and while I was heading in to see if they could call the owner I saw the guy rushing back out of the store looking panicked. I gave him his wallet back and he acted like I was the one that took it from him. If I was gonna steal from you I’d have cleaned it out and tossed it asshole. Then later when I mentioned that id found a wallet and returned my coworkers were all giving me shit for not just stealing his money. Not one person out of 8 had any opinion other than just steal it. I already don’t have a great opinion of people but that really reinforced my opinion.
