I think being added to join-lemmy definitely helps but people that are already on Lemmy aren’t going to that site so it definitely shows that we are growing (or at least replacing people at a decent rate)

This is the only comment your instance knows about because of the way federation works. I can see his comment history goes back 1.7 years
I think some apps will request all of your comment history and manually calculate karma but it’s not tracked by lemmy
It’s just the default front end that does that. Using a front end like voyager can automatically redirect links to the instance you are signed in on, more apps and the default front end ought to do that quite frankly

“Karma” on Lemmy isn’t tracked. Having a negative score comment or post doesn’t affect your account or experience at all. I’ve posted plenty that has gotten downvoted into the negative and I haven’t even gotten a warning because Lemmy is an actual free speech platform unlike twitter or Reddit.
That doesn’t mean that everyone has to like your opinions though, hence the downvotes, but that’s ok.

When you think things are bleak as far as repairs/maintenance, look to local lenders in your community. Unless you made a significant down payment they probably sold your mortgage to Freddie but they still can give you loans on your home equity especially if going to pay for things that are going to put more equity in your home.
I never got banned. I just left because the greedy little CEO is a liar that sacrificed the only thing that made the site good, 3rd party apps, on the alter of the almighty dollar during the API debacle.
To be honest the quality of posts, comments, and moderation policies had gone way down hill since at least 2020. The killing of 3rd party apps just gave me the motivation to finally leave
She’s a kid, you are hardly an adult. Just be kind, the things you are going through she can’t really understand at that age. And the things that a big deal to her, aren’t that big of a deal for you.
When you both are older and more mature you will hopefully just remember that you were kind and not the teenage drama that comes with adolescence and finding your place in the world.
He’s fine. His videos come off as a bit whiny. The stance of pirating content as being justified instead of just abstaining from an unsatisfactory service seems entitled to me but I get it. I think he’s mostly right in his analysis of things, I don’t make it through every video that he posts though
Is it full of spam because it’s unmoderated or is it just empty. If it’s just empty but has a good amount of subs just start posting. A lot of times the community can police itself and if you need a moderator if it becomes more active then reach out the the instance admins that the community is hosted on.
If you have a private account, why would you accept a follow from a user on a rogue instance?
I guess you would need to trust your friend to vet whatever instance they join. And you’d have to vet that you aren’t getting catfished by a threat actor using a friends identity but those are all problems regardless of whether that’s fixed since a malicious admin would have access to your posts so your friend can subscribe to them in the first place, whether this is fixed or not
